Bal Krishna Bal,PhD
Dr. Bal Krishna Bal is a Professor of Computer Engineering and Associate Dean at the School of Engineering, Kathmandu University. Earlier, he served as the Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, at Kathmandu University(KU) from October 2018 till July 29, 2024. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Informatics and Computer Engineering from Russia, respectively in the year 2002 and 2004. Similarly, he completed his PhD from Kathmandu University in the year 2015.
He joined Kathmandu University in 2009. Before that, he worked at Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya, Nepal in two of Language Technologies Projects, namely the the Bhasha Sanchar Project(2005-2007) and PAN Localization Project (2005-2009). His primary research area is Natural Language Processing(NLP) and he has been in the field since 2005.
He has worked both in the industry and academia conducting various Research and Development of NLP applications like the Spellchecker, Grammar checker, Machine Translation, Text-to-Speech, Optical Character Recognition(OCR), Sentiment Analysis, etc. Besides NLP, he also has significant industrial experience in Software Localization.
He has been involved with multi-national software localization Projects like PAN Localization, http://panl10n.net, and currently provides consulting services to software giants for developing localized software and content.
